Multi-Tenancy

By webmestre , 30 January 2026

Multi-tenancy is one of the important new capabilities of the platform.

When infrastructure is built from the ground up, local identity and a sense of belonging matter — and this also extends to the shared tools hosted “in the cloud.” Within commons.guifi.net, we incorporate the ability to use a shared codebase and shared data while serving multiple domains, each with its own visual identity, landing page, logos, language, and localized content.

This is made possible through the latest versions of Drupal’s Domain modules, which allow a single platform to present different domain-specific views and configurations while running on common infrastructure.

In this way, the same web application can have a distinct appearance, design, and content adapted to a local community or a small proximity service provider, while still aligning with the broader shared vision and benefiting from the reuse of common tools and maintenance efforts.

For example, commons.guifi.net and commons.redesperansa.tl have different visual identities and domain-level configurations, even though they run on shared infrastructure.

Current development work is experimenting with three Drupal themes — Olivero (the Drupal default theme), Solo, and Tara — with the possibility of incorporating additional themes as needed.
